Inspired by the Dinghy Classic, the Dinghy Blunt's shape is slightly wider and significantly easier to skate! This extra width allows us to set up the Blunt with wider trucks, increasing stability and control. Artist Kristoffer Lloyd Valera doesn't exactly think harvesting is very easy, but hopefully this board will make your daily commute a little easier and a lot more fun!
SHAPE
The Dinghy Blunt is a small cruiser board that measures 28.5" long and 8.6" wide. The extra width in the front and slight taper mean you get more leverage on the front truck than the rear, giving it a somewhat directional steering characteristic. The Blunt jumps in size compared to our other Dinghy models, as do the trucks. We set up the Dinghy Blunt with Polar Bear 130s to perfectly match the extra width. This setup works best with smaller wheels, so we set it up with 60mm 76a Chubby Hawgs to keep you close to the ground and give you great acceleration. You'll have plenty of room on the trucks for grinds and a nice progressive turn. With virtually the same wheelbase as the Dinghy Classic and about 20% more surface area on top, you'll get the same mini-board vibes you get from the Dinghy, but with added stability and control.
FLEXIBILITY
So, what is flex and why is it important for a skateboard? In skate-nerd terms, flex is the amount of displacement a board sees when a specific force is applied to it. Check out our formula on the left! There are a few factors that affect flex, like deck thickness, wheelbase, and the amount of force on a deck. We built a machine and put our entire line to the test by applying the exact same force to all of our boards and measuring the displacement we saw in each. This results in a totally scientific and accurate flex range across our entire line! Understanding flex is important when choosing a board. Here are some basics: Downhill/freeride skateboards will have less flex because you need a stiff platform to stand on when bombing or grabbing a turn at speed. Carving skateboards will have more flex, giving you the ability to dig into your turns and pump or carve with ease. Most cruising, dancing, and mountain bike boards will have less flex for control when performing tricks, but just enough to be forgiving when getting around town. We've designed our boards with the best flex for each riding style, but remember that flex is subjective, so get out there and see what you like best!
SETUP
POLAR BEAR 130MM
Some of us still like to ride a slightly narrower board. And, of course, you need trucks to match. If you're downsizing, it's time to upgrade to the 130mm Polar Bears. Sold in pairs.
BUSHINGS
85a is softer, 90a is harder. Softer bushings are livelier but less stable - 88a being what we usually use in our completes.
60MM CUBBY HAWGS
Chubby Hawgs are the wheel of choice on many of our cruisers and complete ATVs and are now available separately in every color of the rainbow! You can upgrade your cruiser setup today. They use the same high-quality urethane found in Fatty Hawgs for superior performance, just in a smaller package.
